eSolutions is a dynamic and innovative team. We have a new and exciting opportunity for an Archivist to use their technical competencies and flair in developing and implementing a program to ensure the effective archiving of digital records.

POSTE & MISSIONS :

Reporting into the Archives Manager, your key duties will include but not be limited to :

  • Developing new systems and processes for the preservation of digital archives to enable compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Staying up to date with international practices and standards relating to digital archives and provide guidance on best practice for the University.
  • Integrating new and emerging trends within the industry with University policies and processes.
  • Promote the services offered by the team to the wider University.
  • Collaborate with other Universities and external parties on identifying and developing innovative approaches to the preservation of digital archives.

POSITION PURPOSE :

  • The position is required to develop and implement and operate a program to ensure all aspects of preservation, systems management, and repository management are in place for digital and physical archival records at Monash.
  • This role also needs to make sure policies and processes are undertaken in accordance with regulatory requirements and in line with external best practice in managing digital archives.
  • The position supports the Archives Manager in engagement with the University community to deliver quality archives management services as well as being responsible for the management of the University’s strategic direction in digital curation.

Reporting Line : This position reports to the Archives Manager, under broad direction, operating with a degree of autonomy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Support the University’s strategic direction in relation to managing and preserving digital, archival records while ensuring all relevant activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements.
  2. Provide mentoring and direction with respect to digital curation activities for the University, drawing on international practices and standards.
  3. Set up the University’s digital Archives repository and manage both the physical and digital repositories, ensuring all collections are stored and handled in accordance with relevant archival management, access and preservation standards.
  4. Ensure integration of latest technical knowledge with archival principles and practices.
  5. Develop and implement of policy, procedures, guidelines, and systems to support preservation of digital and physical archival records for the University.
  6. Promote the Archives services and collections, increasing availability to the University community and other users.
  7. Collaborate with other Universities in identifying, developing and implementing innovative approaches to the management and preservation of digital archival records, including liaison and collaboration with the academic program in Information Management in the Faculty of Information Technology.
  8. Represent Monash University Records and Archives in higher education and professional forums at a national and international level, especially in relation to digital preservation for archives.

Conditions d’exercice :

  • Duration : Continuing appointment.
  • Hours : full time.
  • This role is a full-time position ; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
  • Classification : HEW Level 8.
  • Salary : $98,155 – $108,345 pa HEW Level 08 (plus 17% employer superannuation).
  • Travel to other campuses of the University may be required.
  • There may be a requirement to work additional hours from time to time.
  • There may be peak periods of work during which taking of leave may be restricted.
  • Location : Monash University, Clayton campus, Victoria State, Australia.
  • Recrutement : poste permanent.

PROFIL / KEY SELECTION CRITERIA :

Education/Qualifications :

The appointee will have :

  • Post graduate qualifications in the field of archives, record keeping or information management or progress towards post graduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience.
  • Or extensive professional archives experience and expertise.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

Knowledge and Skills :

  1. Demonstrated extensive experience in development of a significant component of an archives program, including in the development, implementation and management of a digital archives repository.
  2. Extensive knowledge of standards and legislation relating to recordkeeping in a university environment and an understanding of developments in information technology and their impact on recordkeeping.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of best practice and experience developing standards in regards to digital recordkeeping and preservation.
  4. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to engage and motivate staff, and effectively manage the professional development of others.
  5. Strong strategic management and analytical thinking skills, judgment, and the ability to foster change through the development of innovative solutions with client groups.
  6. Outstanding communication and negotiation skills including the ability to provide authoritative advice, manage relationships and influence at all levels within the university and in the broader archival professional community.
